Yo and I at the "Skin + Bones" premiere party, Museum Of Contemporary Art (MOCA), Los Angeles (Yo, of course, is wearing NIKOLAKI) Yo In A Box!One of my oldest, and best friends,
Yo Kwon Smith or
MISS YO as I like to call her, emailed me in the beginning of the week, telling me that she was going to be one of the "featured dancers" at
Madonna's After-Party (for her One-Night-Only Concert at
Roseland Ballroom in New York City). Well, of course, I was floored, tickled pink and started doing "Keep It Together" moves in my Studio right then and there!
Miss YO is a fabulous being to say the least. I have known her since I was a little ol' student at FIDM and have remained friends ever since. I can count on one hand those friends, let me tell you!
MOCA Party: L to R: {Project Runway Season 2 Designer Raymundo Baltazar, Miss Yo, Nick Verreos and David Paul of NikolakiSince I have known her, Yo has opened and closed her own clothing line, been a sought-after patternmaker in Southern California, worked as a fabulous "phantom" designer for many known lines, studied mime in Paris and now moved to New York to pursue her love of dance and her own unique performance art.
Yo is so good, she even received a grant from the famed
REDCAT Theater Disney Hall to showcase a piece there. DIVA! Cut to two nights ago--she danced for
Miss Madonna and
Justin Timberlake as well as guests (including
Domenico Dolce of Dolce & Gabbana) to celebrate photographer
Steven Klein's Birthday Bash at the Box. Go on Miss YO. Love you!
