Dior Resort 2009 Collection: John Galliano has Maria Felix and Lady Bird Johnson Dreams!

The Christian Dior Resort 2009 Collection runway show kicked off at Gustavino's restaurant in NYC last night. Celebrity Dior fans were on site including Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Lopez and her hubby, Marc Anthony. Amazonian actress Charlize Theron was there, in a look fresh off the Dior '09 Resort runway, in a violet sunburst pleated ruffled dress with a plunging neckline. I think she looks FABULOUS! The dress fit beautifully, the neckline framed her gorgeous face perfectly and she was not overly accessorized.

Dior's Resort 2009 Collection was said to be inspired by Lady Bird Johnson, the First Lady of The US, as well as the ladies from 60's Palm Beach and Beverly Hills. But I dare to guess that Galliano was also watching some old Mexican movies and was most likely inspired by one of its Divas, the incomparable Maria Felix.
If he wasn't, he should have been, because that's the first thing that came to mind when I saw all the vibrant hues of pink, blue, orange, colorful stripes and whimsical prints, as well as those outlandish sombreros and over-sized jewels. All the models needed was a long cigarette hanging from their mouth!
The collection was very salable and I'm sure the Town and Country magazine-reading set are going ga-ga over it. The Capri pants, the tiered ruffle dresses, the caftans, the flowy silk chiffon and charmeuse 60's gowns. It's enough to make a girl reach for a pina colada and head to Punta del Este Uruguay for a quick getaway.
